Personalised teaching programs and dedicated specialist staff at St Dominic’s Centre, Mayfield, are helping students not just to survive, but to thrive.

The student-focused learning environment at St Dominic’s provides engaging, dynamic and relevant activities that allow students the opportunity to reach their full potential.

With students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 10, St Dominic’s has a strong commitment to ensuring student outcomes are nurtured in an interactive and hands-on teaching and learning environment.

The purpose-built school provides students with a holistic education and access to a variety of contemporary teaching and learning tools, while also maintaining an emphasis on family and community.

Personalised Plans

Using a strengths-based approach, St Dominic’s focuses on developing the individual, spiritual, personal, social, academic and physical goals of each student through the use of personalised plans.

Each student at St Dominic’s is given a plan to help him/her set learning goals which are monitored formally and informally by staff.

This data assist in tracking student progress and achievement and help to inform the development and improvement of programs, interventions and teaching and learning sequences across the school.

Life Skills Program

Every secondary student at St Dominic’s is enrolled in a Life Skills study program. This program ensures that students meet the mandatory NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirements, while also providing them with the flexibility to follow their own program of study and ensuring they meet outcomes for future employment requirements.

Throughout the program, students may be given the chance to participate in the school community through assemblies, liturgies and sport carnivals. They are also given opportunities to strengthen their living and independence skills.

Each student’s selected syllabus outcomes and content are identified through the collaborative curriculum planning process, with the Key Learning Areas (KLAs) that follow an integrated unit approach.
